Acne is one of the most common skin conditions that affect millions of people every year. While acne isn’t caused by poor hygiene or diet, there are several things you can do to help reduce the severity and frequency of breakouts. Follow these 10 tips on how to reduce your acne, and you’ll be well on your way to clearer skin!
1. Apply 100% natural oils to keep it under control
100% natural oils, like coconut and jojoba oil, are often used as part of an acne treatment regime. Some dermatologists recommend they be applied topically as well as internally, but check with your doctor first. These oils help cleanse pores and prevent infection in order to keep future breakouts under control. They can also help balance out oil production in your skin and make it less oily overall.
2. Use a pimple-fighting serum
Acne occurs when sebum, which is an oily substance produced by our bodies, interacts with dead skin cells in one of three places: follicles, pores and oil glands. Finding a treatment product for your specific type of acne will go a long way toward easing symptoms. No matter how tempting it is, you should never squeeze a pimple because doing so can cause inflammation that leads to scarring. Instead, leave it alone and wait for it to go away. To prevent pimples from popping up in the first place, avoid touching your face with unclean hands or dirty objects and avoid touching your skin if you have an open cut—both of these habits can transfer bacteria from one part of your body to another.
