It’s easy to get dehydrated in the summer, whether you’re working or relaxing. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Follow these simple steps and stay hydrated all day long. Your body will thank you!
#1 Carry Water Everywhere
Carry a bottle of water with you and drink as much as you can—start your day with a tall glass of water, and sip all day long. Remember, hydration isn’t just about staying alive; it’s also essential for good health. Plus, carrying a water bottle with you is a great way to avoid higher risks of dehydration!
#2 Track Your Water Intake
First thing is to write down how much water you consume each day, you can keep yourself hydrated. If you don’t want to lug around a water bottle, simply grab a glass and fill it up every time you take a sip. You can also use an app like Daily Water (Android) or WaterMinder (iOS) to track your consumption. There are tons of options out there for tracking intake; what matters is that you find one that works for you.
#3 Don’t Neglect Sleep
Another easy way to get dehydrated is to neglect sleep. When you don’t get enough shut-eye, your body produces less of a hormone called vasopressin, which controls your thirst and water retention. This leads to dehydration, fatigue and headaches—all signs that you need more water. Adults should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day; sleep helps make sure they do it.
#4 Eat Water Rich Foods
One of the simplest, most effective ways to stay hydrated is to make sure you’re eating enough water-rich foods. Without much effort, you can fill up on water-rich fruits and veggies like watermelon, cucumbers, grapefruit, berries and lettuce because they have much fluid. Watery fresh fruits and veggies not only help rehydrate your body but also provide essential vitamins, minerals and fiber to keep things moving.
#5 Drink Hot Tea And Coffee
The key is to keep your fluids hot. Studies have shown that coffee, tea, and other caffeinated beverages can help you maintain proper hydration because they encourage you to drink more water throughout the day (i.e., a side effect of caffeine consumption is an increased frequency of urination). If you’re trying to lose weight, it’s important to take plenty of water and stay hydrated so your body can function properly.
#6 Add Flavor Without Sugar Or Salt
Add lemon slices or cucumber slices to your water. These add flavor and help cut down on soda cravings. If you don’t like either of these, try mint leaves or fresh ginger root. Both are great ways to mix things up without having to rely on sugar-laden beverages. If all else fails, there’s always plain ol’ tap wate, Drink it in a reusable bottle and encourage others around you to do so too. We have way too many plastic bottles sitting in landfills right now. It’s time we all band together as consumers, citizens and global citizens to make a change.
#7 Just Drink Up
Staying hydrated is incredibly important, but it’s easy to fall into bad habits. The best way to stay hydrated is to drink water! Drink a glass of water when you wake up, one before every meal and another one with each snack. You should aim for at least eight glasses of water each day, older people tend to forget to drink water exposing them to higher risk of dehydrations. These tips should keep you well-hydrated!
