How to Make Peppermint Tea from Fresh Leaves

Have you wondered how to make peppermint tea from fresh leaves? Peppermint tea makes a great cooling drink on hot summer days, and it’s also great to help calm an upset stomach or to soothe an upset stomach after eating something that disagreed with you. You can learn the simple steps to making your own refreshing mint tea by following the directions below.

Step 1: Collect your ingredients

You’ll need roughly two handfuls of fresh tea leaves and a teapot or infuser. If you’re using a teapot, use about 2 tbsp of tea per cup of wate, 2 teaspoons sugar ,1 cup ice optional. For an infuser, fill it with 1 1⁄2 cups of boiling water and let steep for 10 minutes before serving. Step 2: Cut and crush the peppermint leaves

Cut off about a dozen peppermint leaves and then roughly chop them with your kitchen shears. (We used scissors for our peppermint tea recipe, but a knife will work as well.) You can crush these with your hands, but we like to use a mortar and pestle because it gives them just enough of a beating without being too rough. Some people prefer to mince their mint leaves, but we find that you lose some of that fresh flavor by chopping or mincing them. However you do it, make sure they’re in small pieces so they’ll release their oils during steeping.

Step 3: Add Water & Steep

Soak a cup of water in peppermint leaves and boil them in a small saucepan. Cover the pan, and simmer the mixture for fifteen minutes. After brewing tea, carefully strain it into a teacup or mug and press on the solids with the back of a spoon. Add sugar and/or honey, if desired. Garnish with fresh mint leaves. Note Always store fresh herbs in a refrigerator or freezer, and remove them before using them so they don’t spoil.

Step 4: Strain & Enjoy

To make your peppermint tea, add 2 tsp. of crushed peppermint leaves per 1 cup of boiling water in a pot or saucepan, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes. Strain with a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into your mug, you can garnish with lemon juice  to add taste and

If you’re new to herbal teas, start by using just one or two teaspoons of fresh mint per cup of boiling water—you can always add more if desired.
